Specialized Centers in the Department:
- Space Weather Monitoring Center
- Established in 2008, this is the first of its kind in Egypt and Africa, and the second in the Middle East. The center aims to support Egypt's space program and assist in predicting space weather events in Egypt. It collaborates with various international projects like monitoring ionospheric weather over Cyprus and Egypt, and works with the Egyptian Doppler network for ionospheric monitoring.
- The center hosted an international conference in 2010, in collaboration with NASA, JAXA (Japan's Space Agency), and the United Nations. The conference included over 100 scientists from multiple countries, including the U.S., France, Switzerland, Turkey, Japan, Germany, Iran, and other Arab and African nations.
- NASA commended Egypt and Helwan University for hosting the conference.
- The United Nations recommended establishing a regional space weather center at Helwan University to support Arab and African researchers.
